August 31st | 1 pm ET / 10 am PT When the phone rang at 6:46 am on August 26th, the news was bad. A colleague reported shots fired during a live television broadcast. WDBJ7 reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward, could not be reached. Within minutes, Carilion Clinic readied one of its Life-Guard helicopters in the hopes that its skilled doctors and nurses might be able to save their lives. Alison and Adam couldn't be saved but the third victim of the attack, Vicki Gardner, was en route to the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. With that, Carilion’s crisis communication plan was activated.
