Project Profile: HVAC
The University of Cincinnati faced a major challenge with aging central utility plants and HVAC technology that was inefficient and beyond capacity to supply heating and cooling needs to the 200-acre campus and six area hospitals. The university installed three new chillers in 2019 and saw a 28 percent reduction in operations costs after only one year and more than $340,000 in energy savings after the third chiller was installed in 2020. In this article, we speak with managers from the University of Cincinnati about the energy- and money-saving project, as well as the challenges associated with the project at a publicly funded university.
Plumbing & Restrooms
The 17-story John Ferraro Building in Los Angeles houses the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), so it was only fitting that the 58-year-old building was in need of an update. To comply with citywide water-conservation mandates, the department’s operating and maintenance department undertook projects to bring the building’s plumbing and restrooms up to date. In this article, we discuss the process of specifying and installing new generation plumbing products, and we’ll profile the planning of the projects, as well as the performance and operation of the updated systems.
Equipment Rental
Maintenance and engineering departments rely on a range of rented equipment to supplement their in-house resources. No matter the equipment -- from generators and portable cooling units to specialized power tools and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) -- managers must have a strategy in place to ensure they rent the most appropriate and effective tools when the need arises to ensure a successful rental experience. In this article, we’ll discuss the key elements of an equipment rental strategy.
