Kalwall Panels Save Millions in Energy Costs | Scarborough Atrium | Scarborough, Ontario, Canada | Industryous Photography

We have long been known for our perfect daylighting that creates strikingly beautiful spaces while enhancing the health and well-being of building occupants. And with gorgeous Skyroofs® from Kalwall®, you can turn basic commercial skylights into high-performance, architectural features that will leave a lasting impression—and a lasting impact.

When it comes to sustainability, translucent Kalwall panels are best-in-industry. Maintaining stable indoor temperatures in all climates while reducing heating and cooling costs has never been easier. Impact-resistance and easy-to-clean technology means a level of resiliency that can stand up to accidents and vandals alike—so no need to spend materials or energy on replacements. Unlike glass and other heavier materials, Kalwall has a high strength-to-weight ratio to achieve incredible clear spans and ease the installation process. On top of all that: Kalwall panels are made from recycled materials and are recyclable themselves. That’s a lot of sustainability in one strong, lightweight package.

Putting this philosophy into practice, the Scarborough Atrium, in Scarborough, Ontario transformed an expansive glass skylight that had failed over time into a sustainable office epicenter. The retrofit future-proofed the facility and is helping toward recovering millions of dollars lost to failing remote-controlled blinds previously intended to minimize solar heat gain and maximize occupant comfort. Building for humans is kind of our thing. At Kalwall, it’s not just about selling a product; it’s about advancing the practice of daylighting to benefit the entire architecture, engineering and construction community and the world in which we build. That’s why we don’t just sell daylighting—we sell daylighting plus all the benefits.

See how Kalwall can breathe new life into your project.

Elgin Artspace Lofts | Chicago, IL | Kate Joyce

Kalwall was key in radically transforming a 1908 Sears building into the mixed-use Elgin Artspace Lofts, bringing a renewed sense of vibrancy to the downtown Chicago area. This retrofit project shines perfectly diffuse natural daylight on the main floor’s art gallery, bathing the space in light that flawlessly represents each piece’s intended colors while protecting them from UV damage. This project’s contributions in designing equitable and sustainable places awarded it the American Institute of Architects’ Chicago Design Excellence Award. Kalwall served as the ultimate balance in creating a unique cultural center—one that respects the old historic building while bringing a fresh new space to the neighborhood.
