In a power emergency, facility personnel must be familiar with the operation of the emergency power control system. Training — knowing how the system works and how to best react in specific situations — can mean the difference between a minor inconvenience and a disaster.
Designed to mimic the operation of a customer’s Russelectric power control system, the Russelectric Training Simulator allows personnel to train on the automatic operation of Russelectric switchgear — using the switchgear’s PLC control.
The Training Simulator consists of a personal computer, two 24” color touchscreen displays, and a dedicated PLC.
The dedicated Simulator PLC — programmed with the same logic as the live system PLC — reacts to changes in PLC setpoints (such as kW values and time delays) in the exact same manner as the live switchgear PLC. This allows operator training with real-life responses… without interfering with the operation of the actual switchgear.
One color touchscreen displays the system operator interface panel (OIP) — the same information displayed on the OIP on front of the actual switchgear lineup. The other touchscreen displays the simulation controls.
The Training Simulator lets personnel:
- Familiarize themselves with the system and its operation;
- Accurately diagnose a wide range of utility, generator, and breaker problems;
- Assess the impact of changes to PLC setpoints by seeing how the system responds;
- Evaluate an almost limitless number of responses to failure scenarios; and
- Develop and validate site operating and emergency procedures…
all in the safety and comfort of an office environment!
