Welcome to the HealthcareFacilitiesToday.com weekly roundup. Check out the key posts from last week and hit the ground running on Monday.

Last week’s posts included a number of examples of how technology is continuing to transform healthcare. Like any other powerful tool — its effect can be positive or negative, depending on how it's used and who is using it.

On the positive side, The Hospitals & Health Networks website shared an article about how a healthcare facility installed a ’genius bar' to help patients with technology. And the Health Facilities Management site included a story about how alternative technologies can help to ease anxiety.

On the flipside, Banner Health is dealing with a data breach that is being traced to food service payments, according to an article on the Becker's Hospital Review website.  Ransomware attacks are another technological event that is becoming all too common. But, according to an article on the Healthcare IT Security site, HIPAA compliance can help protect healthcare facilities from these attacks.

Finally, in last week’s column, Brad Keyes, CHSP, discussed something that could not be less technological — under-sink storage.

Visit healthcarefacilitiestoday.com every Wednesday for Brad's Q&A.

Be sure to come back to HealthcareFacilitiesToday.com every day next week. We’re gathering and sharing the news, insights and advice you need to do your job smarter today, tomorrow and far into the fast-changing future of healthcare facilities.
