Creating Concierge Services for Employees

I've been thinking about packages and mailrooms a lot over the last few days. Do you have dedicated mailroom staff and space? Are employees shipping a ton of stuff to themselves at your location? Is that a problem? I'm really struck by that behavior...I don't think I've ever had anything personal shipped to my place of work. But as more workplaces seek to create concierge services for their employees, seeking to help them balance work and life, I suppose it only makes sense. Read more about what I've learned doing the November cover story for Building Operating Management, which features FM tactics from Under Armour. Then join the discussion about the challenges of delivering concierge services to occupants.

HVAC Fault Detection and Diagnostics

If you're like most FMs, you're hearing more and more talk about FDD - fault detection and diagnostics. The idea is fairly straightforward: FDD gathers data from the HVAC system and uses sophisticated algorithms to find problems. FDD has shown itself to be a powerful tool for improving facility performance, but there are many software products that call themselves FDD, and each offers a wide range of capabilities. A report on how FDD works and what capabilities are available also provides advice on making the most of FDD software. What challenges have you faced? Let me know in a comment.

'Tenant Star' Will Bring Occupants into Efficiency Efforts

Energy Star has developed the Energy Star Tenant Space recognition (initially known as "Tenant Star"). A pilot program is underway involving more than 140 tenant office spaces in 70 organizations, and Energy Star's goal is to roll out the program to all office space next year. Although solid numbers on tenant energy use is several years off, Tenant Star offers valuable recognition and tools to aid efficiency efforts. Find out how the Energy Star program dovetails with changes to another important effort to remove barriers to tenant energy efficiency, and let me know what your facility is doing to improve energy efficiency. How have you gotten tenants involved?
