Help Needed on the Topic of Building Automation Systems

A student is asking members of MyFacilitiesNet for some help with his dissertation. Its title: "An investigation into whether building automation is meeting the expectations of the building operator." He has a questionnaire for building/facilities managers, and his purpose is "ascertaining whether there is satisfaction with the building automation and control systems in use today." Click through to complete his short survey; the link reportedly works on laptops and mobile phones. You can also share comments in the comment section.

Smart Lighting Standards and Interoperability

Accepted open standards have had a dramatic impact on some product categories. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, for example, have become widely adopted for mobile communications because they are well-documented and well-understood, and vendors can create products guaranteed to interoperate. LED lighting systems, on the other hand, can be programmed in any number of ways, but there is today no standardized means of control and automation. If you want to mix lighting from different vendors, there are no established standards for lighting control. Click through to find out more about whether smart lighting standards help or hurt interoperability, then let us know your thoughts.
