Three Permanent Energy Savers

Reducing loads on a building locks in energy savings for the life of a building. For example, "right lighting" involves looking at the amount of light a space really needs, rather than relying on old designs or rules of thumb that result in a space being over lit, and then changing the lighting layout to deliver only the amount of light needed. Right lighting is a way to reduce energy use, because the revised layout will outlast any single lamp. It will also improve lighting quality by reducing glare and by adding light if needed. High-Performance Lighting, or More Light vs. Good Light

Lighting has to be the building system category that causes my jaw to drop more than any other. That, and elevators that can move horizontally... and building exteriors that clean themselves... and transparent PV built right into window units. Okay. Check out Building Operating Management's latest article on where lighting tech stands today, with a particular focus on high-performance strategies and technologies.
