Preparing HVAC for the Change in Seasons

We recently had some new rooftop units installed here at our building, which got me to thinking about HVAC preparations for changing seasons. As we start to move from warm weather into cold, what do you do to make sure your HVAC system is ready for the change? Or, for those of you in warmer climates, do you take this opportunity to perform maintenance or upgrades that you can't really do in the summer?

The Opportunities of the Building Internet Of Things

The number of potential benefits of the Building IoT is matched only by the questions that facility managers are likely to have as they start down the IoT road. Way Ahead on Equal Opportunity Diaper Duty

Global perspectives can be useful. In a previous post on equal-opportunity diaper duty, I asked if you provide baby changing facilities in your restrooms for men and women. That’s because of President Obama’s recently signed H.R.5147, known as the Bathrooms Accessible in Every Situation (or BABIES) Act, which applies to federal buildings with restrooms available to the public. It turns out the FM at the Tokyo American Club, in Tokyo, Japan, has had baby changing stations in the men's restrooms for almost 25 years. Find out more in the comments section to this story, and leave comments of your own.

NASCAR Track Goes LED

One of NASCAR's oldest racing facilities is finally getting lights for next year's racing season – and it's making the immediate jump to LEDs. Martinsville Speedway in Virginia claims it will become the first major motorsports facility to install LED lighting. The project is not only expected to upgrade the racing experience for drivers, but should also enhance the television broadcasts. Read more about the project here and let me know in the comments if an LED lighting upgrade project is a possibility for 2017.
