The FM Complaints File

I have been thinking about starting the Building Operating Management FM Complaints file back up. They were pretty fun. And one reader tells me the book of them that we compiled in 2014 made for some good chuckles during PowerPoint technical difficulties. The tales are all real complaints submitted to real facility managers, so I depend on folks sending me their war stories and favorite situations.... There's one I just can't forget, where they discovered a dynasty of pigeons in the rafters. Just picturing someone sticking their head up into that horror show....Ugh. Makes me shiver. If anybody has any stories they'd like to share anonymously — crazy complaints, weird situations, or just the everyday unbelievable, you can click through and post them here, or email me directly.

The Building Internet of Things Is More than the BAS

The Building Internet of Things is more than the latest release of building automation system (BAS) firmware. The Building IoT is all about the free flow of data among sensors, controllers and new software platforms. That shared data will help FMs improve a building's energy performance, occupant comfort and equipment maintenance. That may sound futuristic, but IoT applications have already started to appear. Read more about what the Building IoT is, how it is expected to change the way buildings are operated, and the steps FMs should consider now to get their buildings ready.
