Improve safety. Increase peace of mind.
Property managers and facility engineers are very aware of the 3-5 year paybacks commonly associated with 3M™ Sun Control Window Films, but how many of these same individuals are aware that window films can also be used to enhance the safety and security of their existing glass? The answer … over a million property managers and facility engineers.

3M™ Safety and Security Window Films and Attachment Systems were first developed in 1969 in response to bombings in the United Kingdom. More recently, they were further improved to be the only safety and security window films to offer excellent tear resistance and impact protection, known as 3M™ Ultra Series. Today, these films and attachment systems are used to address numerous everyday safety and security concerns that property managers and security directors are responsible for, including:
Helping deter break and entry
Bomb blast mitigation
Upgrading existing glass to safety glass (upgrading to tempered glass)
Seismic and spontaneous glass breakage protection
Graffiti and scratch protection

Break and Entry Deterrent
Whether it is a retail storefront, a Class A office building, hospital, hotel or school, today's entryways are often built with large glass walls and doors, which are typically locked either at night or when students are in school. But what good is a lock on a glass door when an intruder can break the glass and enter in seconds? 3M Safety and Security Window Film and Attachment Systems have been shown to help deter intruders from entering the building for up to 2 minutes.

Bomb Blast Mitigation
In 2013, there were nearly 6,000 explosive incidents1 in the U.S. alone, whether due to explosive attacks or accidental explosions. 3M Safety and Security Window Films and Attachment Systems are listed with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and have been tested to federal government facilities bomb blast standards. They also meet or exceed the performance requirements on numerous glazing types under a variety of blast loads.2 These requirements help meet or exceed the following standards related to blast mitigation: ASTM F1642 and GSA TS01-2003.

Upgrading Existing Glass to Safety Glass
Upgrading Existing Glass to Safety Glass (Upgrading to Tempered Glass)
Ever had a code inspector say you can’t lease or occupy a space, or sell a facility, until the building is brought up to code? A common requirement for glass doors and windows is for the glass to be considered “safety glass.” 3M Safety and Security Window Films have been tested in accordance with safety glass impact standards and in many cases can retrofit existing annealed glass to cost effectively bring the glass up to code. These requirements help meet or exceed the following standards related to upgrading glass to safety glass: ANSI Z97.1, 16 CFR CPSC 1201 and EN12600. Consult with your local 3M Authorized Window Film Dealer and local code official to determine applicability.
Seismic and Spontaneous Glass Breakage Protection
3M Safety and Security Window Films and Attachment Systems mitigate hazards from shattered glass by helping to maintain the broken glass within the frame of the window. Tempered safety glass can spontaneously break due to nickel sulfide inclusions, which may cause glass to rain down on occupants below and leave a dangerous opening in the window frame. 3M Safety and Security Window Films are designed to keep broken glass together and 3M Attachment Systems help keep the glass safely in the frame.

Graffiti and Scratch Protection
3M™ Anti-Graffiti Window Films provide a sacrificial layer to help protect the glass from most scratches, acid etching and tagging. The film is easy to remove and a fraction of the cost of new glass, which helps maintain the pristine image of your facility.

3M Safety and Security Window Films and Attachment Systems cost effectively address a number of the common safety and security concerns around existing glass. If you are trying to maximize your security budget, think 3M Window Films!
